Esquire Middle East hosted the latest edition of its famed watch collector's dinner at the Rosewood Hotel on Abu Dhabi's Al Maryah Island. The invite-only dinner on May 4, 2017 - held in partnership with The Galleria Mall on Al Maryah Island - saw a guestlist containing the UAE capital's most clued-in watch collectors. The handpicked list of guests each brought with them a watch of personal significance, and were welcomed by an opening speech from Esquire's Jeremy Lawrence, before being served a sensational menu from the Rosewood's talented team, and specially crafted drinks from Chivas Regal. After an informative live Q&A with Marc Aellen (vice president, head of international sales at Swiss watchmaker Jaquet Droz), the guests were surprised with a dial-painting workshop from the team at Rivoli. The delighted guests were given the tools to paint their own Jaquet Droz watch dials which were then fired in the oven and given to the guest to take home. The evening saw a healthy contingent from the Arab Watch Guide, watch collectors society and its head Hassan Akhras. The collectors showed a depth of knowledge that only true watchmen know, posing questions to Mr Aellen and the specialist dial-painting artist on hand.
