OMEGA Speedmaster: Timekeeping Among the Stars

The OMEGA Speedmaster has long stood as a symbol of endurance, precision, and human achievement. Selected by astronauts and trusted by space agencies for over half a century, it has accompanied humankind on some of its most extraordinary journeys beyond Earth.

Its legendary status was cemented in July 1969, when the Speedmaster became the first watch worn on the Moon, marking its place in history as an instrument of both timekeeping and exploration.

Tested to the Limits

In 1964, NASA conducted a series of brutal tests on various chronographs submitted for use in space, each designed to push the watches to their absolute limits. Extreme temperatures, shocks, vibrations, and pressure variations were part of the gauntlet. In the end, only one timepiece survived unscathed: the OMEGA Speedmaster.

The Birth of the Moonwatch

Although originally launched in 1957, the Speedmaster’s official space legacy began in 1965, when NASA certified it for use on all manned missions. Since then, it has accompanied astronauts on all six lunar landings, earning the iconic nickname: "the Moonwatch."

A chronograph unlike any other, the Speedmaster continues to embody the pioneering spirit of exploration, on Earth and beyond.
