Breguet: Marine Hora Mundi
The Hora Mundi made an immediate impact upon its launch. Developed over three years ago and protected by four patents, it introduced an instant change dual time display with a memory function. Using the pusher and crown, the wearer sets the first city’s time and date, then selects the second. A refined system of cams, hammers and an integrated differential automatically calculates and displays the correct time and date.
For Breguet, true luxury lies in the details. The hour and minute hands, together with the hour markers, are coated with luminescent material to ensure clear legibility at night. Positioned at 4 o’clock, the hand-hammered Sun and Moon enrich the dial. The sun appears in luminous rose gold, while the rhodium-plated moon reveals a subtle grey tone, forming a striking and realistic celestial display.
In 1814, Abraham-Louis Breguet joined the Bureau des Longitudes by royal decree, contributing to astronomical challenges linked to determining longitude at sea. A year later, King Louis XVIII appointed him Watchmaker to the Royal Navy, one of the era’s highest distinctions. The world’s explorers set sail with Breguet instruments, a legacy continued today through the Marine collection’s nautical spirit and refined sporting design.
